According to the Director of Media and Publicity for the Nigerian Army, Brigade General Onyema Nwachukwu, more than 2,000 Boko Haram insurgents have surrendered to the military in Borno State in the last three weeks.

Governor Zulum has also said that repentant terrorists will join another terrorist group if Nigerians refuse to forgive and accept them. He said some of the repentant terrorists are innocent because they were forced to join the Boko Haram war.

However, many Nigerians have warned against the release of repentant Boko Haram insurgents by the federal government. They argue that it is an injustice to the lives of thousands of people who have been killed by insurgents.

3. Buhari also received the Governor of Plateau State, Simon Lalung, at the Villa on Tuesday afternoon.

The meeting came amidst rising insecurity in Jos, Plateau State. Residents of the city are living in fear due to the attack on some Muslim pilgrims by hoodlums a few days ago. The University of Jos has suspended its examinations and different states of the Federation have evacuated their indigenes from the university due to the tension in the city.
