55-Year-Old Woman Faces Fraud Charges in Ado-Ekiti Court

A 55-year-old woman, Modupe Dauda, was brought before an Ado-Ekiti Chief Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday, facing charges of fraud.

The defendant, who does not have a fixed address, is accused of committing the offense in September 2022 in Ado-Ekiti.

According to the police prosecutor, ASP Johnson Okunade, the defendant allegedly obtained credit wears worth N285,500 from Mrs. Eniola Asamonda.

It was claimed that the defendant had been purchasing clothing items on credit from the complainant, accumulating a debt of N285,500 that she failed to repay.

However, Okunade alleged that in November 2022, the defendant obtained N300,000 from the complainant under false pretenses.

She purportedly claimed to be a screening officer of the Standards Organization of Nigeria, promising to assist in securing employment for two children of the complainant’s friends.

The prosecutor stated that these actions violated the Criminal Laws of Ekiti State 2021.

He requested an adjournment to allow him time to review the case file and gather his witnesses.

The defendant pleaded not guilty to the charges. Her counsel, Mrs. Adeola Awe, requested bail for her client, assuring the court that she would not abscond.

The Chief Magistrate, Mr. A.O Adeosun, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N100,000, with one surety required to provide the same amount.

The case was adjourned until September 28 for further proceedings.
