The Nigerian Army has dismissed six soldiers for allegedly abandoning their post during a Boko Haram attack due to an alleged lack of ammunition, sources informed SaharaReporters.

These soldiers, part of Operation Lafiya Dole, a counterinsurgency effort in the North-East, reportedly retreated from an attack near Damboa, Borno State, earlier this month.

Those allegedly discharged are identified as 19NA/78/0690 PTE Olaniyi Emmanuel, 20NA/79/3745 PTE Masa’udu Adamu, 22NA/82/5192 PTE Abdul Azee Saleh, 22NA/82/1721 PTE Mohammed Mohammed, 22NA/82/1191 PTE Adah Toye, and 22NA/82/1909 PTE Hassan Abubakar.

The source criticized the decision, stating that the soldiers fled due to running out of ammunition during the battle.

He emphasized that the soldiers were not adequately supplied with arms and ammunition to effectively engage Boko Haram forces.

Complaints about insufficient equipment and firepower among Nigerian soldiers facing Boko Haram are common. The source also attributed the deaths of their colleagues to these deficiencies, noting that the insurgents managed to infiltrate their location and inflict significant casualties.

The dismissal of these soldiers has sparked discussions about the adequacy of support and resources provided to Nigerian troops in their fight against Boko Haram.
