Eighty five percent of 5,500 Nigerians in crisis-ridden Sudan are students, says Foreign Affairs Minister Geoffrey Onyeama.

Onyema revealed this on Sunday evening during a live broadcast on Channels Television.
The Nigerian Embassy in Khartoum had asked Nigerians particularly students in Sudan to “remain indoors” as the bloody fight between rival forces in the country rages.

“As the Embassy had earlier informed students, you are therefore requested to stay calm and remain indoors, while the embassy is working on final approval to commence evacuation,” an excerpt in the statement from the Embassy of the Federal Republic of Nigeria in Khartoum, signed by H.Y Garko for Charge D’Affairs read on Sunday.
But Onyeama said the government is working round the clock to evacuate Nigerians in Sudan.
He said that the only means to evacuate them is via road which is still unsafe.
