Lagos State University’s football team has made a stunning comeback at the ongoing 11th All Africa University Games, defeating Federal University Oye Ekiti (FUOYE) 2-1 in their second Group A match.
After a 1-1 draw against Kenyatta University in their first match, LASU bounced back to reckoning with a convincing win over FUOYE.
The match, played at LASU Sports Centre, Ojo, saw LASU take the lead in the 10th minute through Okoro Emmanuel’s volley.
FUOYE equalized in the 38th minute through Teniola Samuel, but Aiyeni Elijah’s late strike secured the win for LASU.
“I must say that this victory was not easy, and I have to commend the guys from Federal University Oye Ekiti for their resilience and quality display which made the match entertaining and explosive,” said LASU coach Arubiewe Ramon.
Ramon also thanked the university’s management and students for their support.
“I want to commend the Vice Chancellor and the entire Governing Council, staff, and students of LASU for their support. We won’t disappoint the University Community,” he said.

FUOYE coach Blessing Ayodeji Ojo attributed the loss to home advantage and poor officiating. “My boys played very well, but the host made good use of home advantage. The accreditation of players was not properly done, and LASU fielded three to four unregistered players, but it was overlooked. The center referee was biased and took some questionable decisions which affected our play.”
With this win, LASU tops Group A with four points, alongside Kenyatta University. FUOYE is third, followed by Ghana. In the next match, LASU will face University of Ghana, while Kenyatta University will face FUOYE.
