As Nigerians, we often place a great emphasis on education, with many of us believing that it is the ultimate solution to all of life’s problems. We believe that if we work hard and study hard, we will be able to achieve success in life.

However, there is one thing that many people believe that school does, but it actually doesn’t. That thing is providing us with all the skills we need to succeed in the real world.

Yes, school is important, and it provides us with a solid foundation of knowledge and skills, but it does not teach us everything we need to know. There are certain skills and abilities that are essential for success in the real world that are not taught in schools.

For example, schools do not teach us how to deal with failure, rejection or setbacks, which are all inevitable parts of life. They do not teach us how to build meaningful relationships, communicate effectively, or navigate complex social situations.

In addition, schools do not always teach us how to think critically, solve problems creatively, or take calculated risks. These are all essential skills for success in the real world, but they are not always emphasised in traditional education.

We need to develop a more holistic approach to learning that includes not just academic knowledge, but also practical skills, emotional intelligence, and personal development.
