Babcock University Laments High Electricity Tariff, Pays N300m in May

Babcock University, Ogun State, has decried the high electricity tariff in Nigeria, revealing that it paid N300m in May alone.

The Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Ademola Tayo, made this known during the institution’s 22nd convocation ceremony, where 132 first-class students and 16 distinctions in the School of Clinical Sciences were graduated.

Tayo appealed to the government to reduce the electricity tariff, stating, “High electricity tariffs are a threat to quality education in Nigeria. Universities and education need support for the development of the country.”

He emphasized the institution’s commitment to producing capable and compassionate individuals, acknowledging the support of families and faculty members.

The convocation ceremony featured legal practitioner, Mr Wole Olanipekun, as the guest speaker.

The university produced a total of 2,842 graduates.
