The National Association of Polytechnic Students (NAPS) South-West Zone has issued a seven-day ultimatum to the Federal Government to remove the Rector of Federal Polytechnic Ede, Osun State, Dr. Sani man Yahaya, over the expulsion of students who participated in a peaceful protest.

In a statement on Monday, the students’ body accused the Rector of bias and abuse of power, alleging that the committee set up to handle the case comprised individuals whose properties were damaged during the protest.

NAPS South-West Coordinator, Comr. Obasanya Monday Johnson, said the students had made several attempts to engage the Rector but were met with silence.

“Our investigation reveals that the committee established by the management to handle the case comprised individuals whose properties were damaged during the protest, raising concerns about bias and conflict of interest.

“This act is considered unethical and a total abuse of power. We are left with no choice but to demand the immediate removal of the Rector. His leadership has failed to demonstrate fairness, empathy, and understanding, instead opting for punitive measures that threaten the academic and professional futures of our colleagues.

The students’ body warned that it would mobilise its members for a massive protest and shutdown of the institution if the Rector is not removed within the stipulated seven days.
