Aliko Dangote, Chairman of Dangote Group, has attributed Nigeria’s ongoing fuel scarcity to retailers, stating that over 500 million litres of fuel is currently stored at his tank farm, waiting to be distributed.
Speaking after a meeting with President Bola Tinubu and key stakeholders in the oil and gas sector, Dangote expressed frustration that retailers are not picking up the available fuel.

“We have enough supply of crude and can produce over 30 million litres daily. However, since I am not in the retail business, I cannot distribute the fuel myself,” he said. “It is costing me money to store this fuel while Nigerians struggle to access it.”
Dangote pointed out that his refinery has the capacity to meet national demand, adding that the current stock could supply the country for more than 12 days without any imports or production. “If retailers come to collect, there will be no queues at filling stations,” he emphasized.
He urged retailers to take action, stating, “We are ready and waiting. If they don’t pick up the fuel, it’s not my responsibility.”
