AAUA postpones exams indefinitely over students’ deaths

Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba Akoko (AAUA) in Ondo State, has postponed the school examinations earlier scheduled to start last Monday following the death of two students.
The management made this known in a statement signed by the acting registrar of the university, Opeoluwa Akinfemiwa.

According to the statement, the management received with rude shock, the loss of two students in the just concluded week; one student identified as Miss Temitope Patience AYEDUN, a 200 Level student of the Department of Educational Management, who died of illness and the other, Mr. Olakunle Matthew OLAYINKA, a 300-Level student of the Department of Biochemistry, who died of injuries sustained from gunshot by unidentified gunmen.

“On admission of Miss Temitope Patience AYEDUN, a 200 Level of the Department of Educational Management, at the University Health Centre, the Medical Personnel tried their best to manage her until she was referred to the Federal Medical Centre, Owo where she was intensively managed before she died on Thursday, 5th March, 2020.

“Within 24 hours, another news of the death of Mr. Olakunle Matthew OLAYINKA, a 300-Level student of the Department of Biochemistry, following wounds from gunshot by unidentified gunmen, was received last night, Friday, 6th March, 2020, after the Medical personnel at the University Health Centre put up spirited efforts to stabilize him. The Security agents are still on the trail of the assailants for apprehension,” the statement read.

The statement added that the university management, under the leadership of the Ag. Vice Chancellor, Prof. Olugbenga E. Ige, sympathised with the families of the deceased, and following the occurrences, directed that the first semester university-wide GST and ENT CBT examinations for 2019/2020 academic session earlier scheduled for Monday, 9th March, 2020 to Thursday, 12th March, 2020 be postponed till further notice.

However, the management urged the students to be calm and go about their various activities without panicking as the security agencies are on top of the situation
