A 250-bed hospital in Ogun State, built by the immediate past governor of the state, Senator Ibikunle Amosun, has been abandoned and taken over by termites and other animals.

The hospital, which was over 80% completed when Amosun left office, was meant to provide quality healthcare services to the people of Ogun State.

However, since the current governor, Dapo Abiodun, took over, the hospital has been left to decay, with bushes taking over the compound and the building showing signs of neglect.

The windows are dirty, and the medical equipment, worth over N7bn, is lying fallow.

The contractor, who spoke on condition of anonymity, revealed that the hospital was designed to begin operations with a 60-bed Acute Surgical and Outpatient Centre with critical care capabilities. However, the project has been abandoned, and the equipment is now being maintained by the supplier at a cost of over N300,000 monthly.

The Ogun State government has claimed that the hospital would require about N10bn to run, but the contractor disputed this, saying that the initial balance of N2bn was not paid, leading to the variation.

The opposition Peoples Democratic Party has criticized the governor for abandoning the project, saying that it would have put Ogun State on the national map as a destination for medical tourists.
