The School Based Management Committee (SBMC) in Adamawa is embarking on an aggressive house-to-house advocacy, to encourage parents and guardians to bring all school-age children to school.
Mr Joel Jutum, the UNICEF Education Consultant in Adamawa state, disclosed this to News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Friday.
He said the house-to-house advocacy would be conducted this weekend in communities with the aim of achieving the set target of enrolling 180,000 for the 2021/2022 academic session.
Jutum said that the exercise is an annual activity conducted in collaboration with the Adamawa State Universal Basic Education Board (ADSUBEB) to reduce the high rate of Out of School Children (OOSC) through School enrollment.
According to him, all the Jumu’at mosques were informed to announce this and also, during subsequent prayers that free enrollment will continue in each public primary school on Monday and through out the first term of this new academic session.
He added that Churches have also agreed to announce during their Sunday service of Sept. 19th and other meetings the importance of enrolling all children for a better future.
Jutum said that a similar exercise was conducted in 2020 in five out of the 21 Local Governments and was successful, as over 28,000 children gained access to basic education, as enshrined in the Sustainable Development Goal (SDG 5).

He said that ADSUBEB, ministry of education and other critical stakeholders in the state were working as a team to ensure the success of the exercise in all 1,966 public primary and pre-primary schools across the 21 LGs.
