Caleb University doles out N1m cash prize to model school in NIDP debate competition

African Church Model Grammar school, Ifako Lagos, has emerged winner of the 2022 Caleb University  National Intellectual Development Programme (NIDP) debate competition for secondary schools in Nigeria.
The school got the star prize of one million Naira at the Inaugural competition, organised by the University in Imota Lagos,  on Thursday.
In a keenly contested competition, Barachel College won the two hundred and fifty thousand prize by coming second; Baptist Academy, in the third position, smiled home with one hundred and fifty thousand Naira. Dansol High School in the fourth position got one hundred thousand Naira for their gallant efforts, among numerous participants. About 700 students from 40 secondary schools attended the event tagged ‘CAREER EXPO’.
A statement by Olawale Adekoya,  Caleb’s Information, Media, and Publication Specialist, quoted the university Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Nosa Owens Ibie, as thanking the Founder and Visitor of the Institution, Dr. Oladega Adebogun for his vision and gallant strides in his welcome address.

The VC eulogised the students to set the tone for what turned out to be a great event. Also in attendance were Prof. Adedeji Daramola, DVC (Academics); Prof Olalekan Asikhia, DVC Research, Innovation, Strategy, and Administration) and Chairman of the Planning Committee; Mr. Mayokun Olumelu, Registrar; Deans of Colleges, Directors, Lecturers, and other dignitaries.
The audience was visibly enthralled as debaters marshalled their points persuasively, with clear evidence of intensive research, the credibility of evidence, well-Structured, strategically placed arguments, logical ordering, and excellent delivery of points while eloquently speaking for and against the Motion, “Covid 19 – a Blessing or a Burden”.
The NIDP-themed ‘Stand Out’, is the brainchild of Caleb University with Zenith Bank Plc as the main sponsor. Other co-sponsors are Stanbic IBTC Bank, Eco Bank Plc, UBA Plc, De Millers Farms, Fan Milk of Nigeria Plc (FMN PLC), Golden Penny Foods, Rite Foods, Checkers Africa Ltd.,  and Imota Local Government (host community).
During the Career Expo segment of the event titled ‘Developing a Creative Mindset in the 21st Century, the Guest Speaker, Dr. Temitope Fasoranti,  Executive Director, Zenith Bank Plc represented by the Group Head, Retail Banking, Mr. Emmanuel Oladimeji, admonished the students to make studies a non-negotiable priority by shunning all manners of social vices, and ultimately ensure they carefully choose the appropriate career path.
