Africa’s COVID-19 death toll hits 100,000

The number of COVID-19 related deaths in Africa reached has surpassed 100,000 cases on Friday. 100,294 on Friday.

Africa Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reported that the figure now stands at 100,294. Coronavirus was first recorded on the continent in February 2020.

The agency said the number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in Africa so far was 3,796,354.

South Africa reported the highest number of deaths – 48,708, which eclipses the numbers of the two following countries: Egypt, at 10,201; and Morocco, at 8,524.

The southern Africa region is the area most affected by COVID-19 in terms of confirmed cases. Africa CDC added that a total of 3,346,404 infected people have recovered.

Nigeria has so far recorded more than 150,000 cases and 1,800 deaths.

Globally, there have been 111 million cases of coronavirus and 2.45 million deaths.
