The Alumni of Anglican Girls Grammar School (AGGS) Ijebu Ode are gearing up for a week-long celebration to mark the school’s  70th anniversary.
The celebration kicks off January 22, 2024, with a variety of activities for current students, alumni, and the local community.
The Chairman of the Planning Committee, Yeye Folashade Sosanwo-Adedeji revealed the detailed plans for the school’s upcoming 70th-anniversary celebrations on Saturday.
Sosanwo-Adedeji who is also the immediate past principal of AGGS Ijebu Ode stated that the anniversary will kick off on January 22 with a visit to the motherless baby’s home, accompanied by the planting of fruit trees within the school compound.
“The fruit trees, once mature, are expected to serve as a source of income for the school”, she said.
According to the plans outlined by her, a literary and debating day takes centre stage on January 23, followed by inter-house sports on January 24.  “On January 23, the school will host a literary and debating day celebration, followed by inter-house sports on January 24, past students who reside in Ijebu-ode and environs are encouraged to participate actively as part of the anniversary celebrations.
“On the 25th of January 2024, that is the D-Day. That is the school anniversary day. The school was founded 70 years ago, exactly on January 25 and so, we are going to have a distribution of food and drinks for all the teachers and all our students, including the non-teaching staff.
“We are going to give them food on that day. It will take place around 12-2 pm and we expect all old girls to come back to school on that Thursday to celebrate with ourselves and to move into our different school hostels or our hotels so that on Friday morning, we can all resume back to school latest by 7.30 am.
“Friday, January 26, will feature group discussions on career paths, advice, and counselling for students, followed by a Gala night starting at 4 p.m.
“We are going to divide into four different groups and the groups will be career groups for sciences, arts, commercial and vocational. All old students  in the science line will move into that group. Those in the art group will move into the art. Those of us in the commercial will move into the commercial group. And those of us in the vocational will move into the vocational group.
“When  coming to school on that Friday morning, old students are coming in for the assembly with their school uniforms and school berets. If possible, they can carry their bags. They are coming in as students.
“Saturday, January 27, will be dedicated to recognising outstanding individuals, including principals, teachers, and various sets for their contributions to the school. The day will conclude with the presentation of awards, followed by further celebrations at various hotels and dormitories.
“The celebrations will wrap up with a thanksgiving service on Sunday, January 28, followed by an annual meeting in Adebambo Hall. During this meeting, elections will be held to form new executives and representatives.”
As the AGGS Ijebu Ode community eagerly awaits the historic 70th anniversary, the meticulous planning promises a memorable and significant celebration for all attendees.
