The Delta State Police Command has arrested two women and a group of vigilantes for their involvement in the brutalization of a 20-year-old truck pusher, Abubakar Yusuf, who was accused of stealing N400,000 from a lockup store at the Sapele Market. The incident occurred on Thursday evening, September 12, 2024, in Sapele.
According to eyewitnesses, Abubakar was beaten and set ablaze by the mob after being accused of theft by Mrs. Onoriode. However, it was later revealed that Onoriode’s sister had confessed to stealing and hiding the missing money.
Good Samaritans rescued Abubakar, who suffered burns on his head, feet, and hands. The matter was taken up by a Human Rights team, led by Comrade Kingsley Imode, who reported the incident to the police.
A police source confirmed the arrest of two women and the vigilante team responsible for the brutalization. “We will investigate the matter and ensure justice is served,” the source said.
Abubakar is currently receiving treatment at the Sapele Central Hospital. The incident highlights the dangers of mob justice and the importance of upholding the rule of law.
