The government of Akwa Ibom State has said that it will withdraw the operational license of any school that resumes the third term academic session online and also take legal actions against such school.

It warned against reopening of school for the third term, 2019/2020 academic session, saying it is yet to authorise schools’ resumption either physically or virtually.

The State Commissioner for Education, Nse Essien, issued this warning in Uyo, the state capital, noting that government was aware that some private schools had resumed online and were asking parents to pay school fees.

Essien   said that any school; either private or public, caught in the act would have its operational licence withdrawn and prosecuted, adding that the government would announce schools’ resumption in the state when it is safe for the pupils to return to school. “No school either (private or public) is authorised to start the third term school year, either in schools environment or online.

“I have been reliably informed that some private schools have already started the third term online and have asked parents and guardians to pay school fees and purchase digital gadget for their children and wards.

“This should be discontinued forthwith. Any school that goes contrary to this instruction will have its license withdrawn and will be prosecuted,” he said.
