Gbogi Emmanuel, a prominent figure in the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ondo State, has announced his resignation, citing the party’s failure to uphold democratic values and its detrimental impact on the Nigerian populace.

In a resignation letter dated September 23, 2024, addressed to the Chairman of Ward 6, Akoko South West Local Government, Emmanuel expressed his disillusionment with the party’s current trajectory.

Emmanuel’s letter emphasizes a belief that the APC has become “a weapon of poverty and misery” for the masses, as evidenced by the ongoing economic challenges facing the country.

He criticized the party for its practices that have led to a “rob Peter to pay Paul” mentality, particularly regarding recent internal appointments and a controversial primary election that determined the party’s gubernatorial candidate for the upcoming November elections.

“This decision is a well thought-out resolution, after wide and far-reaching consultations with my immediate family, friends, political associates, and particularly my political structure across Akoko land and beyond,” Emmanuel wrote. He highlighted his concerns about the lack of fairness, equity, and loyalty rewards within the party.

Emmanuel previously rejected an offer to serve as Special Assistant to Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa, viewing it as a potential demotion rather than an opportunity. His resignation not only underscores his personal grievances but also sheds light on the broader internal conflicts within the APC in Ondo State, which have included recent political crises involving key figures such as the deputy governor.
