The Deputy National Chairman of the Labour Party, Bashiru Apapa, has said the growing acceptability of the party and its presidential candidate, Peter Obi, among Nigerians will pave the way for its victory in the 2023 presidential election.
Apapa, who said Obi’s presidential bid was daily receiving overt and covert support from many governors and notable leaders, added that Nigerians were tired of the nation’s negative drift in the hands of All Progressives Congress and the Peoples Democratic Party.
The deputy chairman, who spoke in Ado Ekiti during a sensitisation programme for LP members and numerous Obi support groups in Ekiti State, canvassed increased support and mobilisation for the party to achieve victory in the presidential election with a view to making life better for Nigerians.
Apapa, who noted that Obi’s goodwill and past achievements were attracting Nigerians to the party, said, “There are some people who you may not believe are coming up to support Obi; some leaders up to heads of state are in support of Obi. Many governors, more than five of them, are supporting the party underneath. We don’t want to mention their names for now.
“It is because of the way Obi performed before. Again, not all of them believe that Nigeria should continue the way it is going now. They want change, better and positive change for that matter, not like the other change we experienced in the past.”

He said the APC and PDP had made the LP a target of their criticisms because they were afraid of the growing support it was enjoying, adding, “It is because of the popularity of the LP now that everybody is embracing the party; definitely, the APC and PDP are afraid.”
The LP Chairman in Ekiti State, Odunayo Okunade, who expressed satisfaction with the growing support for the party and Obi in the state, urged members and supporters to continue to mobilise others “in a bid to have a government that will be sensitive to the plights of Nigerians in 2023.”
Meanwhile, the governorship candidate of the LP in Adamawa State, Umar Madawaki, has accused Governor Ahmadu Fintiri of attempts to scuttle, the labour movement propelled by the presidential candidate of the party, Peter Obi.
Otumba, who addressed some select journalists at his residence, said he was aware of plots by the Fintiri administration to sow division within the Labour party in the state.
He said, “History is about to be made in Adamawa and the nation because the Labour Party is a movement which is set to rout the ruling APC at the national level and the PDP at the state and take over the reins of power for the benefit of all.”
He said Peter Obi was the only governor in history, who did not plunge his state into debt, leaving behind over N100bn in the coffers of the state for his successor.
