The Advertising Regulatory Council of Nigeria (ARCON) says is holding an annual lecture and symposium where 16 universities across Nigeria will come together to bridge the wide gap between theory and practice.
According to the council,  there is a steep lacuna between real life advertising and practical advertising strategies and university theories.
The Director General of ARCON, Dr Olalekan Fadolapo said this at a briefing tagged Advertising Industry Colloquium, 2023 in Lagos on Wednesday. He said that the university students will be hosted at Sheraton Hotel in Ikeja on March 30.
He said the primary purpose of the event is to Bridge the gap between the academic and the professionals– the town and the gown.
“We have situations where graduates finish from the universities or other higher institutions of learning who do not have ideas of what is done in the outside world.
“The knowledge gap between theory and practice is wide.

“How do we integrate the academic and the professionals into the real world of advertising?”
Also speaking at the event, Professor Rotimi Olatunji, Professor, Public Relations and Advertising at Lagos State University, shed more light on the trajectory of ARCON’s vision and mission statement.
Prof Olatunji said: the vision is to bridge the gap between the town and the gown by interrogating the body of knowledge and involving young minds from the universities.
“We are pitching competition with 16 universities to be trained for perfect advertising.
“Prizes will be awarded the best participants and our sponsors include private organisations and government agencies.
“Moving around the country for all and sundry is all for the DG to direct. And as he mentioned earlier, that would require a lot logistics.”
