Avanti Communications Appoints Jumoke Akande as Chief Marketing Officer

Jumoke Akande has been appointed as the new Chief Marketing Officer of Avanti Communications, a leading satellite capacity partner in EMEA.

 

Based in the company’s new offices in Lagos, Nigeria, Akande will be responsible for developing an integrated channel strategy across key sectors such as mobility, enterprise, defence, and education.

The move is part of Avanti’s plan to accelerate its rollout across Africa.

“Jumoke is a proven leader with over 20 years’ experience in marketing and joins us at an exciting time,” said Libby Barr, COO – Customer at Avanti Communications.

Barr added that the company is delighted to have Akande join the team of senior executives in Nigeria. She added that Jumoke’s experience in managing teams across markets and launching large-scale campaigns in Africa, which spans over two decades, made her stand out during the recruitment process.

“We can’t wait to see her strategic insight in action in this newly created role. Her experience will be vital in helping Avanti reach its growth ambitions over the next few years,” Barr stated.

 

Prior to her appointment, Akande was an Associate Director at GICL/IHS Towers where she oversaw their fibre and rural telephony marketing strategy. She has also held senior roles at MainOne, Dell Technologies, and consulted for leading MNOs in Africa, including MTN Nigeria. With such a wealth of experience, Avanti’s new Chief Marketing Officer is expected to help the company establish a stronger presence across the African continent.

Avanti invested $1.2bn in a network that incorporates orbital slots in Ka-band spectrum, satellites, ground stations, data centers, and a fibre ring.

 

The company provides dedicated fixed and flexible-beam satellite connectivity with extensive coverage across Europe, the Middle East, and Africa through its HYLAS satellite fleet and partners in 118 countries.

Jumoke Akande’s appointment is expected to provide Avanti with the much-needed expertise to accelerate its growth in Africa.
