Babcock University has begun preparations for the virtual convocation ceremony of its 2020 graduating students.
Towards this end, the university has published the 2020 graduate Class list on its website. The list which contains only the matriculation numbers of the students, was dated Tuesday, August 4, 2020. The publication contained the number of students graduating from each department as well as their class of degree.
Recall that while the Federal Government shut all the schools in the country to contain the spread of COVID-19 pandemic, Babcock had continued its academic activities online. The university made use of the virtual conference platform, Zoom, to carry on with lectures, complete tests, conduct exams as well as for project defence.

It was learnt that before the COVID-19 pandemic, the school had already conducted some exams. Also, some of its 100 and 200 level courses were said to have had their general courses exams online from its CBT centre.
To meet the challenge of assessing students by examinations and quizzes, the school reportedly connected its online examination platform to each student’s portal thereby making it accessible from other remote venues besides the CBT centre.
However, the university experienced some hitches while holding its second semester examination online due to high traffic on the system. This necessitated a postponement of the exam in May with the management issuing a statement on the problem.

The university had explained then that it postponed its online second-semester examination after many students were unable to take their papers on Monday and Tuesday.
It had said, “Babcock University unfortunately wishes to inform you all that the conduct of the second semester examinations is hereby deferred.”
According to the statement by the institution’s Registrar, Prof. Jonathan Nwosu, the examination was postponed because of technical hitches despite the availability of requisite facilities.
Franktalknow.com had reported the management as stating that “This is due to extraneous technical hitches beyond the control of the university. Be informed that the university has sophisticated computer hardware resources, specifically dedicated to accommodate all that is needed for this exercise.
“We have functional 32-core processor blade server, 512 GB RAM, sufficient SSD storage and other necessary accessories capable of handling resources required to conduct the examinations. However, the good news is that our on-ground technical team and foreign consultants have almost finished sorting out the much regretted situation.”
The graduation ceremony is expected to hold virtually this August.
