BREAKING: Police arrest LASU student for kissing minor in viral video

The Lagos State Police Command has arrested a 400 Level student of the Lagos State University, Adeyeye Oluwatosin Babatunde, for kissing a three-year-old girl in a viral video.

Babatunde, who is studying Botany, was seen in a viral video on June 2, 2020, kissing his stepsister, a toddler, in their home at Kajola Street, Shagamu, Ogun State.

The spokesman for the Lagos State Police Command, Bala Elkana, quoted the Commissioner of the State Police Command, Hakeem Odumosu, as asking detectives from the Gender Unit to analyse the video and apprehend the suspect, adding that the suspect was arrested on Friday at about 11am.

According to Elkana, the suspect has been handed over to the State Criminal Investigation Department, Yaba for diligent prosecution in Court.

Meanwhile, Babatunde has expressed regret over his action. He said that it was his first time of kissing the toddler and that their father and other people were there when he recorded the video.

He added that he posted the video on his WhatsApp status because he did not read any meaning into it and that one of his contacts made the video go viral.

The police commissioner thanked Nigerians for directing the attention of the police to the incident and urged the people to always speak against sexual and gender-based violence.
