The management of Sa’adu Zungur University (SAZU) in Bauchi State has refuted claims that over 30 PhD holders have resigned due to dissatisfaction with the institution’s salary structure. The statement, released on September 30, 2024, was made by the university’s Public Relations Officer, Auwal Hassan.

Earlier, the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) had reported the resignations during a press conference at the university’s Yuli Campus. Zonal Coordinator Namo Timothy stated that the resignations were prompted by concerns over salary.

In response, Hassan described the allegations as “inaccurate and unfounded.” He clarified that the university has not received any resignation letters from the purported 30 PhD holders, noting that only six academic staff have left in the past nearly two years for various personal reasons unrelated to salary.

“Our records show that the university currently has 397 academic staff, including 18 Professors and 57 Senior Lecturers. The university has prioritized the welfare of its staff and has implemented initiatives to improve their working conditions,” Hassan said.

He emphasized that SAZU has ensured timely salary payments and addressed promotion arrears since December 2022, further enhancing the overall working environment for its academic staff.
