BREAKING: Counting of votes begins at APC presidential primary

The counting of votes has now begun at the ongoing All Progressives Congress special convention in Abuja where the party’s 2023 presidential candidate is being elected.
Voting ended around 7.30 am despite the initial disruption to the process.

Delegates from 35 states of Nigeria voted as the delegates from Akwa Ibom State were prevented from voting due to a court order on Tuesday . The party in the state is factionalised.

President Muhammadu Buhari and his wife left Eagle Square, the venue of the convention, at about 1.20 am on Wednesday before the commencement of voting.

Before his departure, Buhari told the party members to remain united and avoid acrimony.

The ruling party has been in turmoil since national chairman, Abdullahi Adamu, attempted to impose a consensus candidate on the party.

Meanwhile, 11 northern APC governors stood their ground and announced their decision to zone the presidency to the South.

Already, supporters of APC national leader Bola Tinubu are dancing around Eagle Square, the venue of the convention to celebrate their victory, although vote counting is still ongoing. Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, and former Minister of Transport, Rotimi Amaechi are also believed to be strong contenders in the race.
Earlier, Governors Kayode Fayemi, Abubakar Badaru, and ex-Governor Ibikunle Amosun among others stepped down for Tinubu.
