Justice Haleemah Salman of the Kwara State High Court has sentenced five suspects involved in the infamous Offa bank robbery of 2018 to death by hanging.
The court found the accused guilty of illegal possession of firearms, armed robbery, and culpable homicide, all of which are punishable by death under Nigerian law.
The robbery, which took place in April 2018, remains one of the most violent in recent Nigerian history, claiming the lives of several police officers and civilians.
During the attack, multiple banks were targeted, leading to widespread panic and significant loss of life.
Delivering the judgment, Justice Salman stated that the evidence presented in court established the suspects’ involvement beyond reasonable doubt.
She emphasized that the crimes committed were of the most severe nature, warranting the ultimate punishment.
