There are hopes that the strike embarked upon by the organised labour may soon be called off as the Federal Government and labour unions sign an agreement in Abuja late Monday.
Secretary to the Federal Government, George Akume had convened a meeting with the unions on Monday evening. The meeting lasted over five hours.
At the end of the meeting, both the organised labour and the FG signed an agreement. The resolution was signed on behalf of the Federal Government of Nigeria by Mohammed Idris, and Minister of Information and National Orientation, Hon. Nkeiruka Onyejeocha Nerf, Minister of State for Labour and Employment. For the Organised Labour, Joe Ajaero President, Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and Festus Osifo President, Trade Union Congress (TUC) signed.
The NLC and TUC agreed that they will meet with the organs of the unions and convey their decision to the government.
Resolutions reached at the meeting are as follows:
1. The President, Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, Federal Republic of Nigeria is committed to a National Minimum Wage that is higher than N60,000;
II. Arising from the above, the Tripartite Committee is to meet everyday for the next one week with a view to arriving at an agreeable National Minimum Wage;

III. Labour in deference to the high esteem of the President, Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, Federal Republic of Nigeria’s commitment in (ii) above undertakes to convene a meeting of its organs immediately to consider this commitment; and
IV. No worker would be victimised as a result of the industrial action.
