The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has distanced itself from a viral report claiming it will conduct the supplementary elections arising from presidential and national assembly elections simultaneously with this weekend’s civic exercises.
In a statement issued on Friday, the electoral commission said it has not issued any directive in that regard and would communicate the exact day for the supplementary elections after this weekend’s governorship and state house of assembly elections.
“The Commission has not scheduled the conduct of supplementary elections arising from the Presidential and National Assembly elections. For clarity, the supplementary elections will take place on a date to be announced,” INEC noted.
