Reports have emerged that Atiku Abubakar, Peter Obi, and Rabiu Kwankwaso are engaged in discussions regarding a potential merger ahead of the 2027 presidential election.

The goal is to create a strong coalition to challenge the All Progressives Congress (APC) and address the country’s hunger and insecurity issues.

According to the deputy national spokesman for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Ibrahim Abdullahi, the trio is prepared to set aside personal ambitions to achieve this goal.

Abdullahi noted that had the previous leadership of the party effectively managed internal disputes, prominent figures like Nyesom Wike, Kwankwaso, and Obi would likely still be active members of the PDP, which could have led to a victory over the APC in the last election.

Abdullahi confirmed that discussions are ongoing to get Obi, Kwankwaso, Wike, and others back into the PDP. He emphasized that party management is challenging, but the PDP is doing its best to address internal issues. Abdullahi also stated that salvaging Nigerians from hardship is more important than individual ambitions.

The potential outcomes of Obi and others rejoining the PDP are unclear, but Abdullahi expressed optimism that one of them would yield to the other, providing a clear direction. He reiterated that the focus is on rescuing Nigerians from despair and despondency.
