The Supreme Court has affirmed the election of Governor Umo Eno of Akwa Ibom State.

The apex court on Thursday upheld the November 2023 ruling of the Court of Appeal, which dismissed the forgery case against the governor.

The Court of Appeal in Lagos State had in November 2023 dismissed the forgery case and upheld the judgement of the tribunal affirming Eno’s election as governor of Akwa Ibom State.

The appeal court ruling was given by a three-member panel of judges led by Festus Obande.

The court dismissed the appeal instituted by Bassey Albert and his party, the Young Progressives Party (YPP), against the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Eno, and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for lacking in merit.

The court also described the petitions filed by John Udoedehe of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) and Akanimo Udofia of the All Progressives Congress (APC) against Eno as unmeritorious and lacking substance.
