Confusion and anxiety have gripped parents and candidates in Ogun State following the seizure of the 2024 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) results by the West African Examination Council (WAEC) due to the state government’s indebtedness.

The development has left many families in distress as they await clarity on the fate of their children’s academic progression. Investigations revealed that numerous public secondary schools in the state have been affected by the seizure, with the certificates of candidates withheld.

“The situation is particularly alarming as the WASSCE results are crucial for candidates seeking admission into tertiary institutions,” said a source within the education sector in Ogun State.

The state government had mandated parents to pay the examination fees for their wards, but it is yet to be confirmed whether a failure to remit these funds by the state government is responsible for the seizure of the results.
