Court Remands Two Suspects Over Alleged Attempt to Murder Oyetola

Two suspects have been remanded in an Ilesha correctional facility over alleged attempts to murder Governor Adegboyega Oyetola of Osun State.

According to the Nation newspaper, the remand order was issued by a magistrates’ court sitting in Osogbo, Osun State on Wednesday, November 11.

The suspects, Suliyat Tajudeen (20yrs) and Ayomide Abdulazeez (20yrs) are facing charges of conspiracy, attempted murder, malicious damage, and burglary.

The police alleged that the suspects and others who are yet to be arrested, attempted to kill Governor Oyetola by firing guns and throwing stones at him on October 17 at about 4:30 pm.

The prosecutor, John Idoko, told the court that the attackers damaged seventeen vehicles in the governor’s convoy.

However, the two accused persons pleaded not guilty to the five-count preferred against them by the police.

But when their counsel made an oral bail application, the chief magistrate, Ayilara turned down the request on the grounds that they may flee.

He ordered that the accused be remanded in the Ilesha correctional facility and adjourned the case to November 20, 2020, for ruling on bail.

The governor, his deputy, Benedict Alabi, and other state executives had narrowly escaped death on Saturday, October 17, when thugs attacked them after addressing EndSARS protesters in Osogbo, the capital of the state.

Oyetola had blamed thugs disguising as #EndSARS protesters for attacking him.

Speaking in a statewide broadcast on the morning of Sunday, October 18, the governor described the incident as unfortunate and against the Omoluabi ethos.
