COVID-19: FG Approves 40,000 EHV for WAEC Centres Nationwide

To reduce the spread of COVID- 19 pandemic especially during the conduct of the West African Senior School Certificate Examination billed to start on August 17, the Federal Government has approved the deployment of 40,000 Environmental Health Volunteers (EHVs) in all the 19,000 WAEC centres nationwide.

The acting Registrar of Environmental Health Officers Registration Council of Nigeria (EHORECON), Dr. Yakubu Baba, who disclosed this in Abuja, said the health officers would enforce the social distance rules like compulsory use of facemasks and hand washing. He said they would also ensure that schools provide hand sanitisers and hand wash stations.

He explained that the agency had begun the decontamination of Federal Government owned unity schools in line with the directive issued by the Minister of Environment, Dr Mahmood Abubakar in Kaduna.

According to him, the minister also directed the council to set up monitoring committee that would deploy a technology known as ATP machine to detect the efficacy of the decontamination chemicals used in schools.

He added that the ministry agreed on the need for private sector participation in the disinfection and decontamination exercise of the 104 unity schools owned by the Federal Government in line with the directive of the Presidential Task Force (PTF) on COVID-19 to ensure a conducive learning environment for the students.
