The Minister of State for Education, Chukwuemeka Nwajiuba, has said that the Federal Government is yet to fix a date for school resumption urging students to be more patient.

Speaking during the briefing of the Presidential Task Force on COVID-19 on Monday in Abuja, Nwajiuba said there was no need for students to go on riot over school closure as government was engaging with stakeholders and working towards safe reopening of schools at the appropriate time.

The minister said that he understood the fact that students were tired of staying at home adding that his own children too were tired of seeing his face. He however said that the  schools would resume soon,  but government would not brandish any date.

According to him, about 78 privately-owned universities are insisting on resumption while the response from government-owned universities was still “50-50.” Members of the Academic Staff Union of Universities are currently on strike and have vowed not to call of the strike until government meets all their demands.
