More than 200 students were dropped from the University of Virginia’s registers after failing to meet the school’s coronavirus immunization requirement.

In an email to The Virginian-Pilot, university spokesman Brian Coy said that only 49 of the 238 students dis-enrolled were actually registered for fall semester classes, leading the university to believe that the majority of the students “may not have been planning to return to the University this fall at all.”

After “getting several reminders via email, SMS, phone calls, and contacts to parents that they were out of compliance and had until yesterday to alter their status,” the students were removed, according to Coy.

Unless they have a medical or religious exception, the university is forcing all students, teachers, and employees to get vaccinated before returning to the Charlottesville campus. According to the institution, 96.6 percent of the university’s 27,115 undergraduate and graduate students have been properly immunized.
