Dollar video: Ganduje seeks amendment of claims, witnesses

The suit over the controversial dollar bribery video between the Kano State Governor Abdullahi Ganduje, and the publisher of an online newspaper, Daily Nigerian, Jafar Jafar, on Monday took a new dimension as the plaintiff sought court leave for amendment of process and statement of claims against the latter.

Ganduje had dragged the publisher and others before Kano High Court demanding over N4bn as damages as a result of the video which went viral.

When the case came up on Monday before Justice Na-Mallam, counsel for Ganduje, Ibrahim Nassarawa, also sought court leave to present additional witnesses, change of witness and change in the statement of oath, which the court granted.

The judge also dismissed a preliminary objection application filed by counsel for the publisher, Sunday Opoola, opposing what looked like a replacement of counsel by the plaintiff, noting that what happened was not a change of counsels but the addition of counsel.

Justice Na-Mallam however adjourned the case till April 20th, 2021 for further mention.

Recall that the video clip allegedly showed the governor stuffing his pockets with currency suspected to be dollars, which was alleged to be kicked back from awarded projects from contractors The state government, however, denied it.
