Henry Aghogho, the doctor who delivered Sylvester Oromoni of Dowen College in Lagos, at birth, has testified that the student did not have any underlying illness.
NAN reports that Aghogho testified at an Ikeja coroner’s inquest into the death of Oromoni on Monday.
The student, who was born on December 4, 2009, died on November 30, 2021, aged 12.

While he was being cross-examined by Anthony Kpokpo, the counsel to Dowen College, the doctor said Oromoni was born without any underlying medical condition.
Before the cross-examination, Femi Falana, the counsel to the Oromoni family, raised an objection as to why the witness should be cross-examined, while he was disallowed from cross-examining two witnesses who testified earlier.
Mikhail Kadiri, the coroner, ruled that it was stated that the business of the day would entail tendering medical records of the deceased, explaining medical terms therein, and cross-examining the doctor.

The doctor, also the physician of the Oromoni family, however, told the court that sometime in 2018, the deceased had enteritis and was treated with antibiotics.

According to him, the infection was caused by unclean food and water.
NAN reports that after the cross-examination, the coroner asked all the counsel in the case whether they had other witnesses but they all answered in the negative.
The coroner consequently adjourned the inquest until April 1 for a visit to Dowen College, Lagos.
The late student was alleged to have been attacked by some of his senior colleagues for refusing to join a cult group.
The student’s father, who bears the same name as his son, newsmen that the claims surrounding his death were “true”.
He further claimed that his son was fed liquid substance and intimidated into keeping mum over what transpired.
But the school dismissed the claim, alleging that he only sustained injuries while playing football with his colleagues.
