The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has denied that its X account (formerly Twitter) was hacked. The denial comes after speculations that suspected internet fraudsters had threatened to wage cyber warfare against the EFCC and had allegedly hacked the anti-graft agency’s X account.
According to reports, the internet fraudsters had accused the EFCC of disregarding constitutional norms in cracking down on dubious activities among Nigerians online. However, checks on the account on Thursday morning showed that it was not available.
The EFCC’s spokesman, Dele Oyewale, attributed the glitch to an update being done on the agency’s account. He assured that the account would soon be accessible to the public.
“We are updating our records on the account. It was not hacked. It will soon start running,” Oyewale said.
