EPL: Wright-Phillips tells Pochettino best players to lead Chelsea’s attack next season

Former Chelsea and Manchester City star, Shaun Wright-Phillips, has advised the Blues’ new boss Mauricio Pochettino to partner Christopher Nkunku with Romelu Lukaku in his attack next season.

Lukaku is set to return to Stamford Bridge this month following the expiration of his loan spell at Stamford Bridge.

The Belgian’s future remains in the dark after rejecting a move to be sold to Saudi Arabia by the Blues’ owners.

Inter Milan wants another loan deal for the Belgium international but Chelsea want to sell outrightly.

However, Wright-Phillips sees Nkunku as a perfect partner for Lukaku under Pochettino next season.

“Last season, [having no striker] was their biggest crime,” Wright-Phillips told Metro UK.

“Yes, they were losing matches and conceding goals, but it was not that they were not making chances, it was that they were not scoring them. They need someone to put the ball in the back of the net and Rom [Romelu Lukaku] is a striker.

“They are never going to recoup what they paid for him and I don’t think he has any other options, so I imagine he will be back. Poch [Pochettino] could get something out of him, maybe with Christopher Nkunku playing behind him.”
