The rainy season has worsened the situation, making it difficult for vehicles to pass through.

A check by FTN revealed that motorists, and other users of the Lagos-Abeokuta road experienced significant delays on Thursday, Friday, and today.

Many were trapped for hours in a heavy gridlock caused by the deplorable road conditions and the stalling of two trucks loaded with containers on the expressway.

FTN gathered that the first truck fell on Wednesday, and due to the lack of a deliberate attempt to tow or remove it, it remained at the spot as of the time of this report.

The following day, another truck fell near the first one, exacerbating the gridlock as motorists and users of the expressway demanded action from the responsible government authorities.

This situation has caused significant frustration for motorists, residents, traders, and other users of the Lagos-Abeokuta Expressway, particularly in the areas extending from Ilepa, Ayede, and Pakoto, especially now that the rainy season is in full swing.

Travelling on these roads, whether by bus, tricycle, truck, or motorcycle, has become extremely difficult. Motorists have resorted to driving against traffic once they reach the most deplorable sections, particularly in the Ilepa, Ayede, and Pakoto areas of Ifo Local Government.

Driving from Sango through Joju, Singer, and Iyana-Ilogbo is relatively smooth. However, from Ilepa, through Bosun Sawyer, Pakoto, Vulcaniser, and Bungalow to Vespa, the road conditions are very poor.

A frustrated motorist, Mr. Babajide Aliu, has condemned the neglect of the Lagos-Abeokuta Expressway, particularly in Ilepa, Ayede, Pakoto area.

He described the road’s condition as “unacceptable” and blamed the government for failing to maintain and rehabilitate the critical federal road, causing gridlocks, accidents, and vehicle damage.

Despite promises, nothing has been done, and Aliu urged the government to take immediate action to ensure road users’ safety.

According to him, “This is unacceptable, the deplorable state of the Lagos-Abeokuta Expressway, particularly in Ilepa, Ayede, Pakoto area, is a clear indication of government neglect.

“As a motorist, I’ve experienced firsthand the frustration and danger of using this road. The constant gridlocks, accidents, and damage to vehicles are a result of the government’s failure to maintain and rehabilitate this critical federal road.

“It’s appalling that despite the promises made, nothing has been done to address this issue. The government needs to take immediate action to fix this road and ensure the safety of road users.”

Also, a tricycle operator, Ahmed, has expressed his frustration over the neglect of the Lagos-Abeokuta Expressway, particularly in the Ilepa, Ayede, Pakoto area.

He described the road’s condition as a “nightmare” and slammed the government for failing to clear two broken-down trucks, causing gridlocks and hardship for road users.
