As the University of Lagos Mass Communication Alumni Association (UMCAA) gears up for its inaugural Communications Festival from April 16th to 18th, 2024, a lineup of distinguished speakers promises to ignite discussions on crucial issues shaping Nigeria’s media landscape.

Nigerian-American Hollywood film producer, Ose Oyamendan, and Director General of the National Orientation Agency (NOA), Mallam Lanre Issa Onilu, are set to headline the event alongside renowned journalist and publisher of the Cable News online, Simon Kolawole.

Oyamendan, a proud graduate of the University’s Mass Communication department, will shed light on opportunities for growth within Nollywood, Africa’s largest film industry, drawing parallels to Hollywood’s success.

With a track record of facilitating partnerships between Nigerian and Hollywood producers, Oyamendan’s insights are anticipated to spark new avenues for collaboration and development.

 

Onilu, also an esteemed alumnus of the department, will delve into the role of social media in shaping national orientation and fostering positive perceptions of Nigeria.

 

As the head of NOA, Onilu brings a wealth of experience in communication strategies, poised to offer valuable perspectives on leveraging new media platforms for societal progress.

 

Meanwhile, Simon Kolawole’s address on the intricate balance between journalism and activism promises to confront a pressing dilemma faced by media practitioners nationwide.
