Factcheck: Audio Of Atiku, Okowa, Tambuwal Planning To Rig Election Fake

On Friday, February 24, an audio file ascribed to Atiku Abubakar, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) presidential candidate, allegedly planning on how to rig the presidential election in his favour began making rounds on social media.

It has now been proved that the viral audio is fake. A fact-check by the CDD Election War Room shows that the audio is an ensemble of various audio files containing the voices of the persons in question, falsely edited to spread a false narrative.

According to those sharing the voice note, the audio allegedly shows Atiku, his running mate, and the governor of Sokoto state, Aminu Tambuwal, discussing how to rig the election.

The audio posted by different users alleged a plan by Atiku, his running mate Ifeanyi Okowa and Tambuwal are trying to “interface” with INEC to rig the elections.

In the video, Abubakar, Okowa, and Tambuwal could be heard allegedly strategising on how to rig the elections.

Verification

To verify the claims, we checked the alleged audio to authenticate if it was real or fake. Running the audio through deep ware, we discovered that the audio has been manipulated and was 97% fake.
