Former governor of Ekiti State, Ayodele Fayose, has described President Muhammadu Buhari as a speech reader whose words are lifeless. He says the President lacks action and the strength required to bring any positive change to Nigeria.

President Buhari had in his new 2021 New Year Broadcast to Nigerians early Friday,  promised to re-energise and reorganise the nation’s security apparatus and  the personnel of the Armed Forces and the police with a view to enhancing their capacity to engage, push back and dismantle the operations of both internal and external extremist and criminal groups waging war against some communities in some parts of the country.

He also assured the Nigerian youths that he was committed to fulfilling the demands they made in the wake of the #EndSARS protests.

But, reacting to the President speech in an exclusive interview with Franktalknow.com, the former governor said that it was obvious that Buhari merely read a prepared speech to Nigerians, as the President’s speech was devoid of passion, commitment and action.

Describing the President’s speech as lifeless, Fayose said it was easier to coach the President to read speeches than to teach him how to do his work. “That is why the President continues to fumble anytime he goes for international engagements; that is why his responses are not coherent, they ask him one thing, he says something else. The President should stop making himself a laughing stock,” he said.

“ Buhari  prefers to read to Nigerians than  to address them. There is a difference between talking to your people and reading speeches to them.  Nigerians are still waiting to hear their President talk to them; they are tired of hearing speeches. It is easy to see that the President is merely a speech reader. He reads the speech they give him, that is why this government has not been able to meet the expectations of Nigerians.

“Nigerians want to hear that service chiefs have been relieved of their positions.  They are tired of listening to a president that celebrates the release of abducted school children, they want to know why the nation should allow the abduction to take place in the first place.

“Nigerians want to hear concrete statements that address their pains. This is a President that cannot reshuffle the cabinet; he cannot replace his service chiefs. As it is, the President is not only clueless, he is caught up with a challenge of old age,” he said.

According to him, Nigerians want something better than lifeless speeches. He said, “We have listened to your speech. It has no life, no action. In fact, the way the President reads his speech shows that people are just writing the speeches for him, it is not his speech. None of your readings show passion, commitment, action, expectation being met.”

The governor therefore called on the President to address Nigerians again, noting that the President’s action did not show that he is in control of Nigeria.

“President Buhari is not in control. When a leader is seized, he is not in control, he has no clue, he doesn’t know what is happening in Nigeria. He should grant one on one interview, talk to Nigerians and stop reading lifeless speeches to Nigerians. Let him sack the service chiefs and allow this nation to move forward,” he advised.
