FCT minister of state condemns killings at Dei-Dei market

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Dr Ramatu Aliyu, has condemned in strong terms the violence and killings at the Dei-Dei market.

A statement by her Special Assistant on Media, Mr Austine Elemue, appealed for calm and peaceful coexistence among the diverse groups in the territory.

It will be recalled that violence erupted at the Dei-Dei market in the nation’s capital on Wednesday following a clash between commercial motorcyclists and traders, leading to the death of at least five persons.

The minister, who condemned the crisis, called on indigenes and residents alike to be law-abiding and more tolerant of each other to ensure peace in the territory.

She stressed that peaceful coexistence was not only moral but everyone’s business.

Aliyu also called on residents to assist the police with useful information that would aid them in the overall peaceful coexistence of their various areas.

She said peace does not bring about unity, rather unity brings about a peaceful coexistence among people of divergent historical, ethnic and religious affiliations.

“Please let us save our territory, let us save our people, let us save our patrimony, let us save our right to live peacefully and coexist. It is better than silver and gold.

The Minister appealed to residents of the territory irrespective of tribe or religion to imbibe dialogue in resolving differences at all times.
