Nigeria’s Minister of State for Education, Emeka Nwajuiba, has said that the West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) organised by the West African Examination Council will now hold from August 4 to September 5, 2020.
Nwajuiba made this known on Monday during the daily briefing of the COVID-19 Presidential Task Force. The minister said that as soon as WASSCE is concluded, the students will take NABTEB and NECO exams.

Nigeria’s government had earlier approved the reopening of schools nationwide last week. It however said that only students in graduating classes (Primary 6, JSS 3, SS3) would be allowed to resume to enable them to prepare for their examinations. The minister had also promised to announce the dates for WASSCE soon.
The minister said that the new WAEC date is part of the discussion with stakeholders including the National Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) and Nigeria Union of Teachers.

He said registration for the National Examination Council (NECO) would continue, adding, “We are continuing registration for NECO, for those who have not concluded registration, please try to complete your registration.”
