Hardshp: Buni launches distribution of 50,000 bags of food items in Yobe

Yobe state Governor, Hon. Mai Mala Buni, has launched the distribution of food palliatives to 120,000 households in the 17 local government areas of the state.

Launching the distribution on Thursday, Buni said government procured 50,000 bags of assorted grains including rice, maize, sorghum and millet among others.

 

“The distribution today is to provide more sucour to our teeming populace. This is in addition to the numerous interventions earlier provided to our people.’he said.

 

Buni commended the federal government of Nigeria through the NG-Cares, the North East Development Commission (NEDC), the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), and all other partners “for complementing and supporting government efforts towards providing relief to the citizenry.

 

“l have directed the State Emergency Management Agency to work closely with security agencies to ensure safe delivery and distribution of the materials to the targeted beneficiaries.

 

“Government would deal ruthlessly with any act of sabotage or diversion of the materials” he warned.

 

“The local government committees are also directed to ensure transparency and accountability, with priority given to People Living with Disabilities, the weak and elderly persons, Nursing and expectant mothers, retirees, and low level civil servants” he directed.

 

The governor urged all stakeholders, including members of Yobe State House of Assembly, LGA chairmen, community leaders, civil society organizations, and other actors, “to join hands with government in ensuring effective distribution of the food items to the most deserving persons in the state” he said.
