Veteran midfielder Luka Modric has been praised by ex-Real Madrid manager Jose Mourinho, who has called the Croatia international “the beauty of football.”

 

After joining Mourinho from Tottenham in the summer of 2012, the 2018 Ballon d’Or winner went on to become one of the greatest players in the world.

Modric has played in 531 games over 12 years at the Santiago Bernabeu, contributing 39 goals and 86 assists.

He has made 43 appearances this season across competitions, despite being close to 40 years old.

 

“Luka Modric? He is the beauty of football,” said the Portuguese, according to Madrid Xtra.

“He is my pride, because I took him to Real Madrid when nobody believed that he was a player for Real Madrid.”

 

The 39-year-old was Croatia’s best player as they reached the World Cup final in 2018, and will go down a one of the greatest Real Madrid players of all time.
