How we rescued 24 kidnapped victims in Zamfara – Police

The Zamfara State Police Command has announced the rescue of 24 kidnapped victims including the four students of Government Day Secondary School Birnin Yero, who were abducted while writing their WAEC Exams, and one other student of Federal Polytechnic Kaura Namoda.

Speaking on their rescue efforts on Tuesday, the Commissioner of Police, CP Ayuba Elkanah, vowed to sustain their ongoing search and rescue operations across the State, till all kidnapped victims are rescued unconditionally, and reunited with their families.

He said, “On 22nd November, at about 7 pm, Police Tactical Operatives while acting on intelligence, embarked on a  search and rescue operation at the Shinkafi axis.

“In our search, we rescued 13 abductees including students of Government Day Secondary school, Birni Yero.

“The victims who have spent 60 days in captivity were rescued unconditionally,” he said.

Elkanah also said they rescued 11 kidnapped passengers along Wanzamai – Kucheri – Tsafe road.

The police said armed bandits attacked the passengers travelling from Kano to Sokoto.

“When we got the distress call, the Police Tactical Operatives deployed along Gusau – Tsafe – Funtua road embarked on an extensive search and rescue operation, and finally succeeded in the unconditional release of 11 passengers.

“All the rescued victims were medically checked, went through Police debriefing, and then handed over to the State Government to be reunited with their families,” the police boss added.

CP Elkanah further applauded the Governor, Bello Muhammad Matawalle, and Police Tactical Operatives deployed to different locations of the State for their support in stamping out crime in the state.
