Igangan Community: Parents storm schools to withdraw children over fear of attack

Hundreds of parents on Monday stormed some schools in Ayete, Igangan and Tapa in Ibarapa North Local Government Area of Oyo state to withdraw their children.

It was learnt that the withdrawal of pupils from schools was due to fear of possible attacks on schools in the communities.

It was gathered that news of another attack of the residents by unknown gunmen filtered into communities after children had arrived at their schools.

Parents then trooped to the schools to withdraw their wards on Monday afternoon.

Frank Talk Now recalls that gunmen suspected to be Fulani herdsmen had Saturday night invaded Iganga town, one of the towns in Ibarapa North local government area.

Frank Talk Now gathered from residents that several people lost their lives during the attack.

The State Police Command confirmed the death of no fewer than eleven (11) following the incident.

Community monarch, the Elenpe of Tapa, Oba Oyekanmi Sunday Titiloye confirmed the withdrawal of the pupils by the parents.

The monarch said people have been running helter-skelter to ensure they take their children from schools.

He maintained that parents went to the schools Monday afternoon to withdraw their wards due to fear of possible attacks by suspected Fulani herdsmen.

“We couldn’t sleep till this morning. We just heard that those Fulani people are strategizing to attack us again but they didn’t tell us the precise time.

“No presence of security agencies here. We need government now.”
