Ilaro Poly Plans Assembly Plant for Electric Tricycle

The Federal Polytechnic, Ilaro, Ogun State, has announced plans to establish a mini assembly plant for the production of its newly invented electric automated tricycle, with a call on the Federal Government and corporate organisations to support the commercial production of the innovation.

The Rector of the Federal Polytechnic, Ilaro, Ogun State, Dr Mukail Akinde, made the announcement during a visit by the Governing Council of the institution and the National Automotive Design and Development Council to the innovation centre of the polytechnic. Akinde said the success of the commercial production of the tricycle would help reduce importation, cut pressure on foreign exchange, and boost job opportunities for youths.

The polytechnic is the first institution to produce this brand of tricycle, which was built and assembled at the institution’s innovation centre.

The tricycle has unique features such as a solar-powered panel that charges it and the ability to reverse.

The Chairman of the Governing Council, Alhaji Garba Gashua, expressed excitement and pride in the innovation and promised to rally support for its commercial production.

The Director, Vehicle Electrification, National Automotive Design and Development Council, Mr Ayinde Abdullahi, commended the initiative and said the completion of raw materials companies being built by the Federal government would boost local production in the automobile industry.
